How to choose a game

There are a number of ways to find a game server. At the time of this writing, the TWGS software is available to download at Eis Online and from the discussion forum.

EIS has an online forum for discussion of tradewars from both hosting and playing perspectives. There are also several websites dedicated to the game that have more relaxed moderation.

The StarDock is perhaps the longest running server directory.

MicroBlaster has an excellent directory of active servers.

You need the 'address' of the server, like Ultimate TW or Vid's World You can even use your home desktop computer to run the TWGS..hosting a game, and log on from a laptop on your home network.

Once you get to the TWGS game directory, you must choose a game from the listed available games. You can check to see if any players are currently online by hitting the # key. You can select a game by typing it's letter, and look at the game settings without actually entering the game.

Selecting a game from the server menu will get you to the game entry prompt.

You can get a lot of information about a game without actually jumping in and playing. You can hit the 'S' key for a game status update:

You can see some of the important game info available to help you make your decision: Do I want to play in this game? Questions to ask yourself:

1) How long has the game been going? If the game is a high turn game, other players will have an almost insurmountable lead if the game is more than a week old. In a low turn game, more a marathon than a sprint, there is less need to be there at the time of game opening. Remember too that a corp. with more than two players is much more formidible to face than three or more individual players.

2) How many fighters are in the universe?

You can also hit the '*' key at the game entry prompt:
