There are a number of ways to find a game server. At the time of this writing, the TWGS software is available to download at Eis Online and from the discussion forum.
EIS has an online forum for discussion of tradewars from both hosting and playing perspectives. There are also several websites dedicated to the game that have more relaxed moderation.
The StarDock is perhaps the longest running server directory.
MicroBlaster has an excellent directory of active servers.
You need the 'address' of the server, like Ultimate TW or Vid's World You can even use your home desktop computer to run the TWGS..hosting a game, and log on from a laptop on your home network.
Once you get to the TWGS game directory, you must choose a game from the listed available games. You can check to see if any players are currently online by hitting the # key. You can select a game by typing it's letter, and look at the game settings without actually entering the game.
