Feds

The Feds are three NPC starship captains who police the Major Space Lanes and enforce FedLaw. Their names are Captain Zyrain, Admiral Nelson, and Fleet Admiral Clausewitz. Zyrain actually does most of the enforcement, as the others warp around randomly with no apparent purpose. Feds are indestructible and respond to direct attack by instantly destroying the attacker's ship. They also have the ability to lock their tractor beams onto any ship to enforce FedSpace parking restrictions, and to confiscate holds from ships that violate FedLaw.

The names Clausewitz and Nelson may be references to German military theorist Carl von Clausewitz and British admiral Horatio Nelson. The name Zyrain seems to have originated with the game.
